Adèle as a Keynote at ECCB

At the end of May, I had the incredible opportunity to present my research as a keynote speaker at the 11th Conference of the European Committee for the Conservation of Bryophytes, held this year in Cagliari, Sardinia.

There, I was able to share the initial results of my PhD thesis on the impact of climate change on the distribution of bryophytes in Europe. I have meet several co-authors of my first paper (currently in preparation), and exchange with others who, like me, are passionate about bryophyte conservation! Thrilling!

The conference was followed by two days of excursions to Giara di Gestiru plateau and its wild ponies (photo), Laconi Park and the Marganai Forest. We were able to discover magnificent landscapes and observe species of mosses that are not usually found in our part of the world, such as Targionia hypophylla (photo). This Mediterranean species of complex liverwort is adapted to prolonged exposure to light and is able to fold in on itself to protect its green ventral side from light damage. Fascinating!
